FURTHER AFIELD
The medieval town of Pons is just 15 minutes away. As well as a supermarket and lovely winding streets, the 12th century castle and Romanesque church are both well worth visiting. Saintes is a wonderful old Roman town, with triumphal arch and amphitheatre still intact, some 30 minutes from Larceau. Angoulême is famous for its cartoon festival as well as a beautiful old quarter, and is a 40 minute drive. A little further afield, 1 ½ hours by car, are Bordeaux and La Rochelle .
Both cities offer many opportunities for shopping, wine tasting, boat trips, fine dining and culture. Poitiers is slightly further away, but well within reach for a visit to the famous Futuroscope centre.
If a day on the beach is what you fancy, then there are many options to choose from. Although not quite the nearest, Chataillion-Plage has miles of sandy beaches and sea-front restaurants. The islands of Il-de-Ré and Ile d'Oléron are also fantastic family venues, as well as our nearest seaside town of Royan - 45 minutes away.
